uncool

I feel like 'cool' is such a loaded word. And who doesn't want to be the epitome of what it means to be cool? Whether it be a lifestyle, attitude, style, experiences (and and the list could go on), people can be cool in so many ways. But all of those ways are based on worldly things. And no one is cool 100% of the time. So when I watched 'Almost Famous' for the first time tonight (shocking. I know.) I was hit really hard by a certain quote:

"The only true currency

 in this bankrupt world

is the truth that we share 

with one another

when we are being uncool."

And there it is. Life is not about being cool. It's about being uncool with people who love you no matter what. The friends that stick around are the friends who still look at you with warm eyes and open arms at your most uncool moments. And those friends are only a tiny representation of how God looks at us. He doesn't want us to be cool, he wants us to be the way He made us...He wants us honest.

Also back in May, Garrett and I traveled up to Nashville/Franklin to see the Avett Brothers. We also hit up a list of places I had been wanting to go. But this photo is from Sunday afternoon when Chelsea, Garrett, Kyle (Chelsea's friend), and I walked around downtown Franklin and wound up at a quaint little coffee shop...and I do not know the name of the coffee shop...sorry.

This was a day full of joy and love.

Back in May, Nathan proposed to Savanna and I assisted Maggie in setting up the proposal in our back yard. Once he proposed (which...we all watched the proposal from my brothers bedroom window), Savanna came into the house asking if they were going to have to eat outside all by themselves. 

We proceeded to call Meme, Grandmother, Uncle John and Aunt Joy, and then all sat outside and ate pizza.

I know I always say this but...it's the truth:

I am one blessed human being.

thursday

My mom. She's beautiful, and I definitely take her for granted.
Yesterday, Meme, Mommah, Savanna, and I went to eat lunch at Little Donkey (and here). Afterwards, Savanna and I got lattes at Octane and Mom and Meme got Buttermilk pops at Steel City (let me overload you with links :D). Sav and I learned what types of cocktails require raw eggs...we also picked out vintage stamps for Savanna's wedding invitations.

My sister and brother are getting married a month apart this fall.

WHOA.

family + love

     The Saturday before Easter, I worked until 7:30 and then had design project problems until 10:30 or 11. But I was determined to wake up in my home and enjoy breakfast with my family.
So I drove home -- worth it.

Sometimes, (as I've said before) all you need is a trip home to catch a breath.

golly gee. everyone in my family is half of a couple.

I'm thankful for my house and den which allows us to build a fort.
and I'm thankful for the movie The Vow.
I'm thankful for vegetable soup.
I'm thankful for pillows.

on a more serious note:

I'm thankful for having a boyfriend that is just so incredibly awesome (no worries I won't get sappy) but he made building a fort feel like I was 7 years old again. It was fun and silly!
I'm thankful for my mommah who will sit and watch a movie in my fort...not who will do it...but a Mom who wants to climb in a fort and watch a movie!
I'm thankful for a sister who loves me and makes jokes with me and will do pretty much anything for me.

God has blessed me with a lot of people in my life...and not a one am I not thankful.

Tuesday

Realizing that my blog posts don't have to be perfect and that they don't have to have lots and lots of insightful comments...I'm just going to try to post simple, day to day thoughts and randomness.

I still like my life :)

Today is tuesday. The day after Monday.
I had a processes class that was a work day so naturally Jessica, Kenslie, and I ran around inspecting and buying Bainbridge board, having our postcards printed MULTIPLE times, and rolling around in our computer chairs (this girl loves her some roll-y chairs. they're super fun!).

Just one deep breath can change a day.
But when you add the ocean, salty air, and loved ones...now that can change an outlook on life. 
Humans need breaks and once I get one...I have time to change my outlook and rearrange my priorities. 

Being in God's creation (okay. it was slightly commercialized.) and around the people He has placed in my life always reminds me that there is so much more in my life besides school.

Family//Lake

Honestly, one of my favorite places is the lake. It's home, it's sunshine, it's lazy days and happy days.
This past trip to the lake meant a lot of family time, too. For Labor Day, a whole bunch of us met up at Mary-John's new lake house and we just all enjoyed each other's company.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are my favorite holidays.

I love spending time with my family and friends.
